This Day In Hockey History (10/19)

Today we break out “Brass Bonanza” for our “This Day”.  Well no we are not going to do it literally but just hum the song as we reveal our moment.  This gem occurred 32 years ago today and a rookie who literally had a hell of a career started to make his impact.  One could say, it was a new Howe for a new generation.  First we have the video and then our gem of the day.

 

 

October 19, 1979


Hartford Whalers rookie Mark Howe scored the first two goals of his NHL career, and added an assist in a 6-3 win over the visiting Los Angeles Kings. It was first win in franchise history for the Whalers (who later relocated to Carolina).

This Day In Hockey History (10/19)

This one occurred 26 years ago and features one guy who is still in Buffalo as a coach although some want him canned as soon as humanly possible.  Here we go.

 

 

October 19, 1984


Mike Foligno scored his 6th career hat trick, and Lindy Ruff picked up three assists in the Sabres’ 5-4 win over the Quebec Nordiques in Buffalo.

A record-breaking heat wave in Chicago forced postponement of a Black Hawks Wings game when satisfactory ice could not be produced at Chicago Stadium.
