This Day In Hockey History (7/16)

It is time for a weekend edition of “This Day”.  There were several potential moments that we have could have used today but one did eventually reign supreme.  Sometimes we do use one that technically is a hockey moment in the loosest sense.  This comes from this day 23 years ago and yes I hear bells here ladies and gentlemen.

 

 

July 16, 1988


Wayne Gretzky married actress Janet Jones before a crowd of 700 people in Edmonton.  You could call it a Canadian “Royal Wedding” of sorts.

Former NHL right winger Claude Lemieux born in Buckingham, Que. Lemieux played in the NHL 1983-84 through 2002-03 with the Montreal Canadiens, New Jersey, the Colorado Avalanche, Phoenix and Dallas.
