This Day In Hockey History (7/26)

Well today we take a look at a moment from 16 years ago today.  Barry Melrose rode Wayne Gretzky to a Stanley Cup Finals berth but the party soon ran out and the Los Angeles Kings had to find a new coach.  So they named a guy with a little bit of a Stanley Cup pedigree and a former King to boot.

 

 

July 26, 1995

L.A. Kings named Larry Robinson as their new head coach, the 18th in team history. Robinson replaced Barry Melrose, who had been fired late in the 1994-95 NHL season.

One has to have a ton of respect for the player in this moment.  He won Stanley Cups as a Coach, Asst Coach, and player.  Today’s moment happened just 21 years ago.  Take it away LA…….

 

 

July 26, 1989

Los Angeles Kings signed veteran defenseman, free agent Larry Robinson to a three-year contract.

Veteran goalie Gerry Cheevers left the Boston Bruins to sign with the new WHA Cleveland Crusaders.
