My fellow fantasy hockey fans….

Dear Fantasy Hockey Fans:

It has not been easy fantasy hockey fans. We all suffered through the lockout last year. Then there was the shortened season that frustrated so many. Think about all those sites that had to change everything mid flight then make it work. In the end, it may have seemed like a total mess but this season will be different. There will be more options, a full season, and an Olympic Break to boot.

What can be expected this season? The first thing that people must realize is the most obvious. The transition from a 48 to 82 game schedule will be an adjustment. Tossing an almost three week break into the mess may make this feel like a KHL season. The most important ideal is to take last season and throw 90% into the garbage can. Yes some value can be taken from last season but the key word is some.

Obviously, there are a lot of fantasy guides out there and the iconic one is from Dobberhockey. This is the time of year where you want to read and read plenty. Coincidentally, rankings seem to be flying from all directions. It is a fun time of year as fantasy hockey leagues begin to open again. Please keep in mind that projections by the major fantasy hockey homes are not quite done yet in most cases. Just relax on that part before getting too panicky over that one.

The next thing is this simple adage. You must prepare year round to beat the top hockey minds. Yes luck plays a role and drafting well does too. However, there are always ways to overcome. One of the goals this fantasy hockey season is to teach you different techniques to adapt to what is going on around the typical and not so typical GM's. It is not enough to play and compete anymore. You must do more. This is only the beginning.

Over the coming weeks and months, besides the usual NHL and betting content here, The Program will bring you a different way to play the fantasy hockey game. Stay tuned!

Sincerely,

Chris Wassel
