This Day In Hockey History (2/16)

Here comes the Thursday edition of This Day In Hockey History.  It is time for a nice quick moment from the annuls of hockey history.  Milestones are always a good thing and when its a first from a defensemen we all know and love, that makes it that much more special.  Today’s moment focuses on the immortal Bobby Orr and really there are no better blueliners out there period.  As always we have the video and then the moment.  Let’s get down to it!

 

 

February 16, 1974

Boston’s Bobby Orr became the first defenseman in NHL history to score 700 career NHL points, when he picked up an assist, in a 5-2 win in Los Angeles. Orr scored his 700th point in his 518th NHL game.

Simply there are quite a few who will say Bobby Orr was not only the greatest defneseman of all time but maybe hockey’s greatest player.  That is a matter up for high debate.  However, no one can deny what he did on THIS DAY 37 years ago.

BallHype: hype it up!

This Day brings you an NHL moment I know…the NHL is on vacation right now. However, hopefully this brings you a little taste of what we are missing. At any rate, enjoy the moment.



AHL HOF….not too shabby for this Price…

February 16, 1962

Detroit Red Wings obtained Noel Price from the Rangers in trade for Pete Goegan. After the end of the season the two teams made the same trade again — only in reverse (with Price returning to the Rangers and Goegan going back to Detroit).
