This Day In Hockey History (1/3)

Sometimes the only way a streak can be ended is when an even better team comes along.  It is like building that better mousetrap.  The Philadelphia Flyers in the mid 1970’s were one of the premier teams in the NHL and the Montreal Canadiens were probably just a notch above them (as they had wrestled the Stanley Cup from Philly in 1976).  However, even this moment was a bit of a surprise.  This one happened 34 years ago today but first we have a little video as always.

 

 

January 03, 1977

Jacques Lemaire scored a goal and added three assists to lead the Canadiens to a 6-4 win over the visiting Philadelphia Flyers. Canadiens scored three goals within a span of 2:22 in the final period to end the Flyers’ 20 game unbeaten streak.

The third day of January and it is now time to see what moment made the cut for this day.  Hopefully it is a great one.  Today’s moment is “OLD TIME HOCKEY”!

 

 

January 03, 1929

Boston’s legendary defenseman Eddie Shore drove through a blizzard to get from Boston to Montreal. He then scored the only goal of the game, as the Bruins beat the Maroons 1-0. Rookie Tiny Thompson recorded his 5th career shutout.
