This Day In Hockey History (1/20)

When you look back into history, there are some moments that just make you scream “HUH?”!  Today, we really did find one of those lost in time gems.  It is not the first part that will surprise some people but in reality it is the second part that will do the shocking.  Now when we went digging for a video, it was next to impossible to combine the two players we will mention.  However, here goes something.  Today’s moment comes from 30 years ago today but first the video as always.

 

 

January 20, 1981


Clark Gillies scored his 200th career NHL goal and added two assists, and Glenn Resch recorded his 25th career shutout as the Islanders won 5-0 over the visiting Calgary Flames. Gillies became the 3rd player to score 200 goals with the Islanders.

This Day In Hockey History (1/20)

Today’s moment is more recognizable for the date in the hockey world than anything else.  It may take a minute or two for the meaning to sink in on this one.  Here is the moment.

 

 

January 20, 1995


St. Louis’ Brett Hull scored two goals and added two assists, Adam Creighton had a goal and three assists and Mike Keenan won in his coaching debut with St. Louis, as the Blues won 5-2, in their season opener at San Jose.

It is the middle of the week and time for a moment than can be truly considered quite a milestone. We go to Detroit for this one and their longtime Captain gets the spotlight today. Video then moment as always……

January 20, 2002


Steve Yzerman became the 9th player in NHL history to score 1,000 career assists, and Mathieu Dandenault scored the winning goal 59 seconds into overtime as the Red Wings won 3-2 against the visiting Ottawa Senators.
