This Day In Hockey History (8/19)

It is always fun to look at the trades from several decades ago.  There are players that just need to be moved and big trades in the early 80s were always fascinating.  Of course, this trade between Philadelphia and Hartford (now Carolina) was very interesting.  Here are the details below from this trade that happened 29 years ago but first we have a video.

 

 

August 19, 1982

Philadelphia Flyers traded Greg C. Adams, Ken Linseman, a 1st round draft pick in 1983 (David Jensen) and a 3rd round draft pick in 1983 (Leif Karlsson) to Hartford, in exchange for Mark Howe and a 3rd round draft pick in 1983 (Derrick Smith).

The Rangers used to recycle old players out of pasture but to think, they actually signed one that was already inducted into the Hall Of Fame.  Yes it did indeed happen and here is the proof.

 

 

August 19, 1988

New York Rangers signed 37-year-old Guy Lafleur to a one year contract. Lafleur had been elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame two and a half months earlier. He went on to score 18 goals and 27 assists in 67 games that year.

St. Louis sent the rights to Gord Donnelly and Claude Julien to the Quebec Nordiques as compensation for their signing of Jacques Demers as the Blues’ new head coach.
