This Day In Hockey History (6/23)

There are just times where you sit there and go, “well that was a disaster”.  Indeed the New York Islanders had quite a few of those moments.  However, this one occurred ten years ago today and paved the way for many in the NHL to call the Islanders a laughingstock.  Truly, it was a moment that has become darker and darker to this very day.

 

 

June 23, 2001


Ottawa Senators traded center Alexei Yashin to the New York Islanders for defenseman Zdeno Chara, right wing Bill Muckalt and the second overall pick in the 2001 draft.  That pick became Jason Spezza.
