This Day In Hockey History (2/8)

We decided to do a rare overlap of sorts today on This Day.  Yesterday we put the spotlight on NHL great Dino Ciccarelli.  Today The Program does it again with a different moment and the same player.  This moment comes from 52 years ago today so everyone pretty much has an idea of what this could be.  Here is the video first and then the moment.

February 08, 1960

Dino Ciccarelli was born in Sarnia, ON 52 years ago today.  Happy Birthday to the Hall Of Famer who played with several teams (most notably MIN and WSH) and amassed 1200 points in 1232 career NHL games.

This Day In Hockey History (2/8)

Today we bring you a very old moment but kind of a funny one in the old annuls of Leafs history.  Let us see what this one is.

February 08, 1936

Charlie Conacher became the first Leafs player to score a penalty shot goal. It came in a 3-0 win over the NY Americans, in Toronto, after 3 unsuccessful attempts in team history (all by Conacher). George Hainsworth got his 92nd career shutout.

BallHype: hype it up!

We start off the week with a rather curious moment. It just happened to be something that caught my eye and gave everyone a bit of a good chuckle. Ah here it is now.

What Shields is more known for actually…..

February 08, 2001

Goaltender Steve Shields recorded his 9th career shutout to tie Mike Vernon for first place on the team’s all-time shutout list in the Sharks 0-0 tie against the Canucks at Vancouver.
