This Day In Hockey History (2/23)

It is not often two players accomplish the same milestone on the same day but that is the moment we have here for “This Day” today.  The Pittsburgh Penguins really had a great thing going with #66 and #87 ladies and gentlemen.  It was so good that they won two Stanley Cups and set the fantasy hockey worlds on fire back in the day.  Today’s moment is from 16 years ago and really is something rare in hockey history.  Enjoy the video first and then the moment.

 

 

February 23, 1996


Mario Lemieux and Jaromir Jagr each scored their 50th goal of the season as the Penguins won 5-4 over the Hartford Whalers, in Pittsburgh. It was the second time in NHL history that teammates scored their 50th goal of the season in the same game

This Day In Hockey History (2/23)

When Al MacInnis fires a slapper, people run for the hills.  Today’s moment is from 20 years ago and features one wild high scoring game between the Blues and the former Nordiques.  It is kind of funny that they played last night.

 

 

February 23, 1991


Al MacInnis scored a goal and added four assists as the Flames extended their team-record home undefeated streak to 11 straight games (10-0-1) with a 10-8 win against the Quebec Nordiques.

February 23, 1991


Calgary’s Theoren Fleury recorded his first career 5 point game (3 goals, 2 assists), and his first penalty shot goal in a 10-8 win vs Quebec Nordiques. The Flames tied a team record wth 59 shots, and extended their home unbeaten streak to 10-0-1.
