It is a quick TGIF edition of “This Day” as the All Star Break continues.  If we thought teams that got into shootouts a ton these day was odd, well we have one for you today.  This has to be one of the more surprising ones that we have ever seen in the inbox.  The moment happened 30 years ago today and still can be best described as “WTF?”.  That echoes our sentiments exactly.  At any rate, we present the video first and then that gem like we always do it.

January 27, 1982

L.A. Kings set an NHL record with their sixth consecutive tie game, a 4-4 deadlock against the visiting Philadelphia Flyers.

There are odds thing that often happen in NHL history and today’s moment is definitely one of them.  Usually you may see a minor maybe a double minor called on a penalty and then a major, misconduct, game or gross misconduct for worse penalties.  However up until 1967, there was one that was never called in an NHL game before and then there was this night 44 years ago.  So there really is a first time for everything.  Here is the video and then moment for this day…..

December 07, 1967

Montreal’s John Ferguson became the first player in NHL history to be assessed a triple minor penalty, in a 2-2 tie against Detroit, in Montreal.

Here comes that moment in time again.  Let’s see what it could be today on Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.

December 07, 1968

John Bucyk became the first player to score 250 goals as a member of the Boston Bruins. The milestone came in 4-1 win against the visiting Detroit Red Wings. Bucyk also picked up two assists in the game.

Ah well its Monday….can never trust that day. Of course, it helps to score a lot when you are young. Speaking of scoring with frequency, here is today’s moment…fresh out of the oven.
