This Day In Hockey History (12/16)

It is TGIF here on “This Day” and we are ready to roll with one very nice milestone of a career kind.  This is really one of those moments that make people smile, especially on the West Coast.  The player mentioned in today’s post would go on to win a Stanley Cup with the Detroit Red Wings in 2002.  Here is today’s moment from 11 years ago ladies and gentlemen.  However, we have a video first as we always do.

 

 

December 16, 2000


Luc Robitaille became just the second player in team history to score 500 goals as a member of the Kings. The milestone came in a 4-3 loss against the visiting Tampa Bay Lightning. Luc became the 16th NHL player to score 500 goals with one team.

Truly an old and classic moments from the annuls of hockey history.  The historians would be quite proud of this one.  Here we go from 60 years ago on This Day.

 

 

December 16, 1950


Jean Beliveau and Bernie Geoffrion made their NHL debuts for Montreal and helped the Canadiens end a five-game losing streak by holding the Rangers to a 1-1 tie in front of 14,158 fans at the Forum. Geoffrion scored his first NHL goal.

December 16, 1992


Tampa Bay’s John Tucker scored twice, including the game-winner as the Lightning won 5-4 in overtime against the Sharks, at San Jose. Tucker also recorded a club-record 14 shots on goal.
