This Day In Hockey History (11/7)

We take goalie masks for granted but for some of our younger readers, imagine a time where goalie masks were not even welcome.  Thanks to goalies like Jacques Plante, no netminder has to worry about that now or ever.  Now it is time to take a turn and go back to 52 years ago today with our moment.  Here is the video first and then that gem that truly was a day that changed the game.

Jacques Plante started a game for Montreal wearing a face mask for the first time in his NHL career, and led the Canadiens to a 2-2 tie with the Black Hawks, at the Forum in Montreal.

This Day In Hockey History (1/17)

Today is a pretty easy one for This Day.  First off, 25 years ago today Martin Luther King Day was made into a national holiday.  We all strive for equality and fair treatment no matter the color of our skin.  We are extremely thankful that so many people read this blog and listen to our show so take this day and reflect a little on the meaning of what Martin Luther King Jr. really taught all of us.

Now for today’s hockey moment.  This one seems a bit odd but back in the 50’s and 60’s, this did happen more than people think.  First the video then the moment as always.  Enjoy.

Detroit’s Gordie Howe saw action as a defenseman in game at Toronto because of injuries to other Wings defensemen. Howe also played at right wing in the game, a 2-1 loss to the Maple Leafs.

This Day In Hockey History (11/7)

After a bit of an excursion in how to work yourself to death, we are back.  Today we even found a moment from Terry Crisp’s relatively long lost past.  Here is more.

Defenseman Doug Crossman scored his first career hat trick, including the winning goal at 1:16 of OT, and added three assists to lead Tampa Bay to a 6-5 win against the Islanders, at New York. It was also Terry Crisp’s 150th NHL win.
