This Day In Hockey History (11/18)

TGIF today on This Day as we salute a goalie that was a little out there (aren’t they all?) but when a playoff game was on the line, there were few better.  Today is from a moment that happened ten years ago.  Let’s face it, when Patrick Roy was on his game there were maybe a small handful that were at his level.  First we have the video and then the moment.

 

 

November 18, 2001


Patrick Roy recorded his third consecutive shutout (the 56th of his career) and Rob Blake ended a 12-game goal-less streak with two goals as the Avalanche won 2-0 against the Devils at New Jersey.

We have friends in low places or it does feel that way sometimes.  However, business had to be taken care of and This Day shall go forth.  Today’s moment is from almost 60 years ago.

 

 

November 18, 1953


Rangers’ rookie Andy Bathgate scored the first goal of his NHL career. It came in 3-1 New York win over Chicago, at MSG.

Ottawa’s Marian Hossa scored his first career hat trick, including two shorthanded and one on a power play and added an assist as the Senators won 5-2 against the visiting Florida Panthers.
