This Day In Hockey History (10/8)

Today we have one that spotlights one of the best pure passers of the NHL.  He turned Brett Hull into one whale of a scoring machine and set up many countless others.  This player even was one of the best faceoff men throughout his career and he could pot a few goals here and there when he needed to.  Our moment comes from 14 years ago today and yes it is a milestone.

 

 

October 08, 1997


Adam Oates scored his 7th career hat trick (his first with the Capitals) and added two assists for his 1,000th career NHL point as Washington won 6-3 against the Islanders, at New York. Oates became the 47th NHL player to get 1,000 career points.

October 08, 1975


Doug Jarvis played the first of his NHL record 964 consecutive games (over a span of 12 years). Jarvis started with Montreal, continued the streak with the Capitals and ended it with Hartford on Oct. 10, 1987 in a game against the Rangers.

New Jersey Devils gained their first win in team history, 3-2 over the Rangers at the Byrne Arena in New Jersey.
