This Day In Hockey History (10/16)

Today is a short and sweet moment for “This Day” as we slowly put a lot of things together for not only the show tonight but going forward this week.  Everything starts to get moving as schedules get more bizarre.  This one comes from a guy who took a bit of a break from the NHL, came back, and almost never looked like he left.  Here it is from 23 years ago today…it is The Flower.

 

 

October 16, 1988

Guy Lafleur scored his first goal in three years, 11 months, and 22 days. It was his first goal as a NY Ranger. He also added an assist, and led the Rangers to a 3-2 win over the Canucks, at MSG.

BallHype: hype it up!

This Day featuring TGIF. No it doesn’t. However, it is Friday thankfully. With the dreary weather continuing…we still have a moment and video for everyone to enjoy. Time to get down to it. By the way, we always wanted to congratulate The Great One yesterday on this day 20 years ago…he passed Gordie Howe for most points all time with his 1851st point late in the third period against his former team the Oilers. Then he put an exclamation point on the night by scoring the game winner. Today’s moment please…..

Speaking of shutouts…below is a double.

October 16, 2003

Flyers’ Jeff Hackett recorded his 25th career shutout, and Sharks’ Evgeni Nabokov recorded his 18th career shutout as Philadelphia tied 0-0 at San Jose.
