This Day In Hockey History (10/12)

There are sometimes underappreciated moments that people forget about.  What if you had to replace a legend in the coaching ranks in the premier place to coach?  Could you do it?  Well there was a guy who not only did well but you know what, he eventually won the whole damn thing.  Here is today’s moment and then video.

 

 

October 12, 1968


Claude Ruel made his debut as Montreal Canadiens’ coach, succeeding Toe Blake, as Montreal tied 1-1 at Pittsburgh. Ruel brought the club to a Stanley Cup championship in his first season.

This Day In Hockey History (10/12)

There is team futility and then there was the Vancouver Canucks who had not defeated the Edmonton Oilers in 27 consecutive contests.  Then one day in 1988, something changed.

 

 

October 12, 1988


Greg Adams scored his second career hat trick and added an assist, and led Vancouver to a 6-2 win at Edmonton. The victory snapped a 27-game winless streak for the Canucks against the Oilers (0-24-3).

Al MacInnis scored the first three goals of the game, in the first period for his third career hat trick as St. Louis won 4-2 against the Rangers, at New York.
