Classic Posts: Fantasy Hockey On Radio?

This post from just about a year ago examined the problems with fantasy hockey and satellite radio.  Though it is still there to a lesser extent, we still fight on via the Fantasy Sports Channel in our goal to give you the best meat and potatoes fantasy information by the fans, for the fans, and thanks to the fans.  Here was out letter to our readers and everyone.

The time has come.  The fantasy hockey fan has been out in the cold far too long.  We recently sent a pitch to the folks at Sirius for a nuts and bolts fantasy hockey show.  For whatever reason, the silence was deafening.  Here is their lineup on Channel 211 for today and you tell me what’s missing.  That is right…it is missing hockey.

Now it has been great that some of the finest folks from Blog Talk Radio’s Fantasy Sports Channel have jumped onto this.  They deserve every accolade they can get.  No one is disputing how hard they work or how much time and effort they put into their ventures.  What I am questioning is why no room for hockey?  The growth in fantasy hockey, while not at the level of fantasy football or baseball, has been noticed by many in the industry.  All we are asking here is for a fair shake.

We offer a unique way of doing fantasy hockey advice.  It is not a secret that we cater to those that are not experts but our advice is sound and can be used by any expert.  There is not just one way to win a fantasy hockey league and we want to spread that message to the masses.  Now the question is how can you help us achieve that goal?

That part is actually simple.  All we ask is that you flood Sirius with messages of a fantasy hockey show that you can listen to.  We have the time set and the resources allotted.  Enough fantasy hockey experts want into this venture already.  Many of the folks from the Inside Hockey League are staunch experts that are more than willing to share their expertise in a fast paced radio show.  We are already on Blog Talk’s Fantasy Sports Channel but we want to aim higher.  With the fans and listeners, we can accomplish this.

Many of the no-nonsense debates that you have come to expect from us will just be extended to a wider audience.  Our Fantasy Hockey 101 columns will have even more impact.  There will be updates from all sorts of leagues and all sorts of formats.  If you have a question, we will answer it…no questions asked.  The goal is to take this up a few more levels than it already has been.  Now this is not something to be taken up at the Hockey Summit coming Aug. 23-26 but we may have our own fantasy hockey summit of sorts at the end of August.  Stay tuned on that.

Like I said before, the goal is simple.  We would like to do a fantasy hockey show for the radio masses.  Our question to you becomes what would you want to see on it?  Everyone looks forward to your input and any help will be greatly appreciated.  Let’s make this a reality so that every fantasy hockey fan has a voice and not just on a podcast.  Thank you.

Sincerely,

Chris Wassel
