In the early days of the NHL, there were a variety of rule changes in the game that brought about much good. This is unlike today at times where fans get frustrated over the constant tinkering of their sport. There may have been better moments than the one today but we pay an homage to the history of the game with this rule change that occurred 85 years ago today. During the NHL annual governors meeting, it was decided that blue lines would be measured 60′ from each goal line, rather than 20′ from the center of the rink. This decision widened the neutral zone and decreased the number of offside calls.
