This Day In Hockey History (8/17)

Welcome to Hump Day!  In the old days, there was actual compensation for free agents.  Here is one of those cases.  This moment comes from 34 years ago and yes it does involve a goalie.  It is time to see who it is with a video and the moment of course.

 

 

August 17, 1977


Detroit signed goaltender Ron Low as a free agent, with Washington being compensated with Walt McKechnie and Detroit’s 3rd round choice (Joey Johnston) in the 1978 Amateur Draft.

Today’s moment had to hurt this guy like a roundhouse left.  Thirty two years ago, this player was sent to the equivalent of Hockey Siberia.  Here is that story.

Atlanta Flames signed free agent goalie Rejean Lemelin from the Philadelphia Firebirds.
