This Day In Hockey History (7/15)

This is a moment that probably stung Canada more even though Team USA was the big disaster of the Nagano Olympics as far as ice hockey.  Some had said it was partially do to coaching but on this day 14 years ago the coaches were indeed named.  If only Canada had a wayback machine or a rewind button, they likely would have wanted to do this over again.

 

 

July 15, 1997

Colorado Avalanche coach Marc Crawford was named Head Coach for the 1998 Canadian Olympic Team, scheduled to play in Nagano, Japan. Philadelphia Head Coach Wayne Cashman was named as his assistant.

Goalie trades are very rare in the summer especially after the NHL Draft but one did happen thirty years ago today and this one is still a bit of a deceptive surprise.  Moment time ladies and gentlemen……

 

 

July 15, 1980

Boston Bruins traded goaltender Gilles Gilbert to Detroit, in exchange for Rogie Vachon.

Toronto Maple Leafs signed free agent goaltender Curtis Joseph, who had been with Edmonton.
