This Day In Hockey History (7/14)

Today we found another one of those moments where let’s just say it did not work out all that well.  It was a bit of a sad day for the state of California and the NHL but it had to be done.  We found some old footage thanks to our readers and now here is the moment and video for this day 35 years ago.  There will be more to come later…..

 

 

July 14, 1976


NHL officially approved the transfer of the California Seals franchise to Cleveland. It was the NHLÕs first franchise move since 1934, when Ottawa moved to St. Louis.

This moment may be more because of the rant unleashed on this guy by a sports announcer that ultimately showed him door.  Today’s moment is about a Russian defenseman who did not quite ever live up to expectations and here was his last destination or one of them just six years ago today.

Florida Panthers signed unrestricted free-agent defenseman Alexander Karpovtsev, who had been with Chicago.

Today we go back some 10 years for our moment…I heard Pat Quinn lost a lot of hair over this one.

July 14, 1999


Toronto Maple Leafs named Pat Quinn as their new General Manager. Quinn became the only active GM/Head Coach in the NHL.
