This Day In Hockey History (11/30)

Strange things happen on Wednesdays but we just have a regular old NHL moment from yesteryear today or do we?  Maybe we should be thankful that NHL rules are not like they were many many years ago.  This moment is from 93 years ago and is almost scary to think how this would work err not work in the NHL today.  Maybe it should give some food for thought but here it goes.  First up, we have an old time video and then the gem.

 

 

November 30, 1918


The NHL modified its penalty rules: From this time forward, teams would play shorthanded for only the first three minutes of a five minute major, and for only the first five minutes of a 20 minute match penalty.

Sadly its the last day of the month but as we steamroll into December, it is time for some more change and news coming down the pike.  First though we have the moment from this day in yesteryear.  Are you ready?  Here it is.

Peter Bondra scored twice to set a franchise record for career goals (breaking Mike Gartner’s club record of 397) as the Capitals won 6-2 against the visiting Carolina Hurricanes.

Bobby Smith ladies and gentlemen……

November 30, 1991


Minnesota North Stars veteran Bobby Smith scored his 1,000th career NHL point with an assist, and also added a goal in a 4-3 win at Toronto.
