It was a Brass Bonanza type of day on This Day and that is what we are sticking with.  1979 was the first year in the NHL for the Hartford Whalers and they gave us this nice moment from 32 years ago today.  Yes note the video as we have used it several times before.  You know the song by now.  In this case, here is the song first with the moment right after.

November 17, 1979

Hartford’s Blaine Stoughton began a team-record 6 game goal scoring streak in the Whalers’ 4-0 win over the visiting Edmonton Oilers. Al Smith recorded the shutout, the 9th of his career, and the first in the NHL for the Whalers.

Bernie Federko scored twice as the St. Louis Blues beat the Flyers 3-1 at Philadelphia to end their 34 game winless streak at the Spectrum, where they had been 0-31-3 in the previous 16 years.

Today we salute a nice little milestone. Defensemen often do not get the glory on “This Day” but today we made an exception. Here it goes…..
