This Day In Hockey History (10/23)

Today we found a total oddball stat that just reeks extreme craziness.  It is hard to believe a team could lose a game after something like this but there was the 1974-75 Washington Capitals.  This is just one of their many stories of the worst season in the history of the National Hockey League.  Here is the moment from 37 years ago today.

 

 

October 23, 1974

Washington’s Michel Belhumeur faced two penalty shots — and made two saves (against the Black Hawks Jim Pappin & Stan Mikita). Despite his two saves, the Capitals lost 3-2 at Chicago.

Today we offer a little perspective on the games played list.  Look at this moment from 34 years ago and just think how many players have exceeded these marks.  Now its reveal time…..and more this evening before the games.

 

 

October 23, 1976

Boston’s John Bucyk played in his 1,447th regular-season NHL game as the Bruins won 4-2 at Los Angeles. Bucyk moved past Tim Horton into third place on the all time list behind Gordie Howe (1,687) and Alex Delvecchio (1,549).

October 23, 1984

Calgary’s Steve Tambellini scored his second career hat trick as the Flames extended their home undefeated streak against Hartford to 7 straight games (6-0-1) with a 9-4 win over the Whalers.
