This Day In Hockey History (10/20)

We have a certain fascination with firsts here on The Program and today this one is truly no exception.  Up until this point 27 years ago. the St. Louis Blues had gone their whole existence without a double hat trick.  Well on this night it would change in spectacular fashion and yes the Blues would go on to win this game.  Here is the video and the moment as always straight from the vault.

 

 

October 20, 1984

Dave Barr and Kevin LaVallee each scored their first career hat tricks to lead the Blues to an 8-3 win over the Devils in St. Louis. It was the first “double hat trick” game in Blues history. Barr also had an assist and LaVallee added 2 assists.

Today’s moment happened 15 years ago and well it really does put offensive numbers into perspective when you really digest this one.  I am still amazed by this.  Enjoy.

 

 

October 20, 1995

Wayne Gretzky got four assists to become the first player in NHL history with 1,700 career assists, and Jari Kurri scored his 23rd career hat trick as Los Angeles won 7-4 at Washington.

October 20, 2002

Anaheim rookie Martin Gerber recorded the first victory of his NHL career, a 3-2 OT win over the visiting Colorado Avalanche, in the 1st game in NHL history that featured two goaltenders from Switzerland in the nets. David Aebischer took the loss.
