The Morning After:

Yesterday’s scores:

Penguins 2, Devils 1

Maple Leafs 5, Capitals 4 (SO)

Thrashers 3, Predators 2 (OT)

Blue Jackets 3, Stars 2 (SO)

Sharks 5, Red Wings 2

Predictions record: 1-4

My 3 stars of the night:

1. Logan Couture, SJ (2 Goals)… Couture helped San Jose claim a huge win in Detroit with a pair of goals, including the game-winner.

2. Sidney Crosby, PIT (1 Goal, 1 Assist)

3. Rick Nash, CBJ (1 Goal, 1 Assist, SO Goal)

Tonight’s Slate:

Senators @ Canadiens, 7:00 ET

Sabres @ Bruins, 7:30

Avalanche @ Panthers, 7:30

Lightning @ Flames, 9:30

Ducks @ Oilers, 9:30

Game of the Night:

Buffalo Sabres @ Boston Bruins

7:30 ET… TV: VERSUS

Records:

Overall: Sabres (11-13-3) … Bruins (14-8-3)

Last Ten: Sabres (6-4-0) … Bruins (5-3-2)

Away/Home: Sabres (6-5-2) … Bruins (5-5-2)

Season Series: 1-0 Bruins

Players to watch:

BUF- Thomas Vanek

Vanek has played well in the last month (14 points in 12 games).

BOS- Marc Savard

Can Savard finally get on the scoresheet in his third game back?

Projected Goaltenders:

BUF- Ryan Miller (2010/11 stats: 9-7-2, 2.26 GAA)

BOS- Tim Thomas (2010/11 stats: 13-2-2, 1.46 GAA)

Injury Report:

BUF- Tim Connolly (groin, doubtful), Drew Stafford (upper body, doubtful), Shaone Morrisonn (head, questionable), Rob Niedermayer (knee, out)

BOS- Marco Sturm (knee, out), Trent Whitfield (Achilles, out)

Game Thoughts:

These playoff foes from a year ago meet up tonight for their second contest of the year. Boston won in Buffalo in the first go-round, but Lindy Ruff’s bunch is playing better since then, thanks to Miller. The Sabres will look to take advantage of a Boston club that has been shaky at home this year. However, I like the B’s to get by and grab the two points in a tight one.

Prediction: Bruins 2, Sabres 1

The rest of tonight’s predictions:

Canadiens over Senators

Panthers over Avalanche

Flames over Lightning

Oilers over Ducks

Morning Skate (12/7)

BallHype: hype it up!

Apparently Ryan may have forgotten the Fundamental Theory Of Versus but we shall see.

The Morning After:
Last night’s scores:
Red Wings 3, Rangers 1
Senators 4, Ducks 3 (SO)
Predictions record: 1-0-1

My 3 stars from last night:
1. Jimmy Howard, DET
(28 Saves, 1 GA)
The Wings ‘tender was clutch in their win in New York.
2. Jason Spezza, OTT (1 Goal, 1 Assist)
Spezza engineered the Sens’ offense in Anaheim.
3. Corey Perry, ANA (1 Goal, 1 Assist)
Despite the loss, Perry was terrific with 2 points and a +3 rating.

Tonight’s Slate:
Devils @ Sabres, 7:00 ET
Thrashers @ Maple Leafs, 7:00
Flyers @ Canadiens, 7:30
Hurricanes @ Penguins, 7:30
Capitals @ Lightning, 7:30
Oilers @ Panthers, 7:30
Avalanche @ Blues, 8:00
Wild @ Coyotes, 9:00
Flames @ Kings, 10:30

Games of the Night:
New Jersey Devils @ Buffalo Sabres

7:00 ET… TV: VERSUS

Records:
Overall:
Devils (19-7-1) … Sabres (16-8-2)
Last Ten: Devils (6-3-1) … Sabres (5-4-1)
Away/Home: Devils (10-2-1) … Sabres (9-4-2)
Season Series: 1-0 Sabres

Players to watch:
NJ- Jamie Langenbrunner

Even though he’s climbing up there in age, there seems to be no letup in the captain’s play.
BUF- Tim Connolly
Connolly has cooled off a bit, and the Sabres need him to produce.

Projected Goaltenders:
NJ- Martin Brodeur
(09/10 stats: 17-7-1, 2.20 GAA)
BUF- Ryan Miller (09/10 stats: 16-5-2, 1.85 GAA)

Injury Report:
NJ-
David Clarkson (leg, out), Paul Martin (arm, out), Dainius Zubrus (knee, out)
BUF- Chris Butler (ankle, doubtful), Paul Gaustad (knee, out)

Game Thoughts:
VERSUS picked out a pretty good game tonight, as Brodeur and Miller meet in a classic goaltending showdown. The Sabres grabbed the first matchup in Newark this year, so revenge should be on the Devils’ minds. Lemaire’s gang usually plays well in Buffalo, so I like their chances here.
Prediction: Devils 2, Sabres 1 (OT)

Calgary Flames @ Los Angeles Kings
10:30 ET… TV: Local Networks

Records:
Overall:
Flames (18-7-3) … Kings (17-10-3)
Last Ten: Flames (6-3-1) … Kings (6-3-1)
Away/Home: Flames (11-2-3) … Kings (7-4-2)
Season Series: 1-0 Flames

Players to watch:
CGY- Jarome Iginla

Calgary’s leader netted a hat trick in their last meeting.
LA- Drew Doughty
The young D-man has 2 points and a +5 rating in the last 2 games.

Projected Goaltenders:
CGY- Miikka Kiprusoff
(09/10 stats: 16-6-3, 2.21 GAA)
LA- Jonathan Quick (09/10 stats: 16-9-3, 2.72 GAA)

Injury Report:
CGY-
Cory Sarich (undisclosed, out)
LA- Ryan Smyth (upper body, out), Rob Scuderi and Brandon Segal (lower body, questionable), Andrei Loktionov (shoulder, out)

Game Thoughts:
The Flames are the hottest road team in the league, coming off an impressive win in San Jose. Los Angeles is 3-0-1 in their last four, and looking to bounce-back after losing to the Blues. If the Kings’ bad penalty kill can stop Calgary’s man advantage, they have a good chance. In the end, I think the Flames will suffer from the jinx of being #1 in the Power Rankings here at the RLD…
Prediction: Kings 3, Flames 2

The rest of tonight’s predictions:
Thrashers over Maple Leafs
Canadiens over Flyers
Penguins over Hurricanes
Capitals over Lightning
Oilers over Panthers
Blues over Avalanche
Wild over Coyotes
