Tonight’s Slate:

Hurricanes @ Capitals, 5:00 ET

Bruins @ Thrashers, 5:00

Blue Jackets @ Red Wings, 5:00

Games of the Night:

Boston Bruins @ Atlanta Thrashers

5:00 ET… TV: Local Networks

Records:

Overall: Bruins (12-7-2) … Thrashers (11-9-3)

Last Ten: Bruins (5-4-1) … Thrashers (5-4-1)

Away/Home: Bruins (8-2-0) … Thrashers (7-5-1)

Season Series (09/10): 4-0 Bruins

Players to watch:

BOS- Patrice Bergeron

Bergeron needs to step up after going pointless in the last three games.

ATL- Andrew Ladd

Atlanta’s new captain has been a consistent force this season.

Projected Goaltenders:

BOS- Tim Thomas (2010/11 stats: 11-2-1, 1.56 GAA)

ATL- Ondrej Pavelec (2010/11 stats: 5-4-2, 1.68 GAA)

Injury Report:

BOS- Marc Savard (concussion, out), Marco Sturm (knee, out), Jordan Caron (flu, out), Trent Whitfield (Achilles, out)

ATL- Fredrik Modin (upper body, questionable)

Game Thoughts:

Of the three games on tap today, this is by far the most intriguing. Both teams have started the year well, and it should be a solid goaltending duel between Thomas and Pavelec. Atlanta has won four straight; Boston has lost two of three. The B’s took all four in their head-to-head series last year, and expect more of the same tonight.

Prediction: Bruins 3, Thrashers 1

Columbus Blue Jackets @ Detroit Red Wings

5:00 ET… TV: Local Networks

Records:

Overall: Blue Jackets (14-7-0) … Red Wings (14-4-2)

Last Ten: Blue Jackets (7-3-0) … Red Wings (7-2-1)

Away/Home: Blue Jackets (8-1-0) … Red Wings (9-1-2)

Season Series: 1-0 Red Wings

Players to watch:

CBJ- Rick Nash

After his hot stretch, Captain Nash is goalless in two games.

DET- Todd Bertuzzi

He is quietly having a nice season with 17 points and a +11 rating.

Projected Goaltenders:

CBJ- Steve Mason (2010/11 stats: 8-6-0, 2.88 GAA)

DET- Jimmy Howard (2010/11 stats: 11-3-0, 1.90 GAA)

Injury Report:

CBJ- Marc Methot (upper body, questionable), Kristian Huselius (ankle, out), Ethan Moreau (hand, out)

DET- Mike Modano (wrist, out), Chris Osgood and Kris Draper (groin, out)

Game Thoughts:

How will Columbus respond to getting beat at home by these Red Wings on Friday? Nash and company will have to re-group going back to the Motor City, where the Wings are dynamite. Since this looks like the old Detroit team, I think they’ll carry a killer instinct tonight to separate themselves a bit from the Jackets in the Central.

Prediction: Red Wings 4, Blue Jackets 2

The rest of tonight’s predictions:

Capitals over Hurricanes
