Morning Skate (11/24)

Morning Skate

Ryan reigns down with his AM Skate on Thanksgiving Eve.  Soon the turkey will be defrosted and ready for one to make the ultimate sacrifice in this household.  However, expect a different kind of turkey revenge later.

The Morning After:

Yesterday’s scores:

Coyotes 5, Oilers 0

Predictions record: 1-0

My 3 stars of the night:

1. Lee Stempniak, PHX (2 Goals, 1 Assist)… Stempniak’s three-point performance engineered the Coyotes to their seventh consecutive win.

2. Ilya Bryzgalov, PHX (23 Saves, Shutout)

3. Martin Hanzal, PHX (2 Goals)

Tonight’s Slate:

Penguins @ Sabres, 7:00 ET

Blue Jackets @ Islanders, 7:00

Capitals @ Hurricanes, 7:00

Red Wings @ Thrashers, 7:00

Kings @ Canadiens, 7:30

Stars @ Senators, 7:30

Flames @ Devils, 7:30

Rangers @ Lightning, 7:30

Bruins @ Panthers, 7:30

Blues @ Predators, 8:00

Flyers @ Wild, 8:00

Avalanche @ Canucks, 10:00

Blackhawks @ Sharks, 10:30

Games of the Night:

Los Angeles Kings @ Montreal Canadiens

7:30 ET… TV: Local Networks

Records:

Overall: Kings (13-7-0) … Canadiens (13-7-1)

Last Ten: Kings (6-4-0) … Canadiens (6-4-0)

Away/Home: Kings (5-6-0) … Canadiens (7-4-1)

Season Series (09/10): 1-0 Canadiens

Players to watch:

LA- Drew Doughty

Doughty has gone pointless in the last three games… he’s due.

MTL- Andrei Kostitsyn

Call it a gut feeling, but I think Kostitsyn will have a great game.

Projected Goaltenders:

LA- Jonathan Quick (2010/11 stats: 11-3-0, 1.90 GAA)

MTL- Carey Price (2010/11 stats: 12-7-1, 2.05 GAA)

Injury Report:

LA- Willie Mitchell (wrist, out), Alexei Ponikarovsky (finger, out), Scott Parse (hip, out)

MTL- Andrei Markov (knee, out)

Game Thoughts:

It feels a little like 1993, doesn’t it? Ok, maybe not. The Habs and Kings meet up for a rare tilt in Montreal, a place L.A. has not won in since Dec. 11, 1999. Montreal has been solid on home-ice as of late, while the Kings have struggled away from home all year. Can they steal two points? I say the Habs take this game, extending their win streak to six over L.A.

Prediction: Canadiens 3, Kings 1

St. Louis Blues @ Nashville Predators

8:00 ET… TV: VERSUS

Records:

Overall: Blues (11-5-3) … Predators (9-7-3)

Last Ten: Blues (5-4-1) … Predators (4-6-0)

Away/Home: Blues (3-5-2) … Predators (3-1-3)

Season Series: 2-1 Predators

Players to watch:

STL- David Backes

He is on a six-game point streak and needs to be a physical force tonight.

NSH- Marcel Goc

The 27-year-old German has been one of the more valuable players for the Preds.

Projected Goaltenders:

STL- Jaroslav Halak (2010/11 stats: 9-4-2, 2.45 GAA)

NSH- Pekka Rinne (2010/11 stats: 6-6-2, 2.59 GAA)

Injury Report:

STL- T.J. Oshie (ankle, out), David Perron (concussion, out), Barret Jackman (knee, probable), Roman Polak (wrist, out)

NSH- Ryan Suter and David Legwand (lower body, questionable), Matthew Lombardi (concussion, out)

Game Thoughts:

Due to a scheduling snafu, this will be the last time St. Louis comes to Nashville this season. It’s their fourth meeting overall and the Preds have taken two of the first three. The Blues seem to be back on track but also struggle on the road. Look for Barry Trotz and company to rebound from Monday’s loss in Columbus in a low-scoring contest.

Prediction: Predators 2, Blues 1

Wednesday Game of the Week:

Chicago Blackhawks (11-10-2) @ San Jose Sharks (9-6-4)

10:30 ET… TV: NHL Net. (US), Local Networks

2009/10 Season Series: 3-1 Blackhawks

Prediction: Sharks 4, Blackhawks 3 (SO)

More to come from this game…

Lock of the Night:

Penguins over Sabres… Pittsburgh is starting to play a lot better and the Sabres will be without Ryan Miller. It seems to always be an exciting game when these two meet in Buffalo, but I expect the Pens to prevail here.

The rest of tonight’s predictions:

Blue Jackets over Islanders

Hurricanes over Capitals

Red Wings over Thrashers

Senators over Stars

Devils over Flames

Rangers over Lightning

Bruins over Panthers

Flyers over Wild

Canucks over Avalanche
