The Morning After:
Yesterday’s scores:
Canadiens 3, Islanders 1
Hurricanes 4, Rangers 3
Flyers 3, Penguins 2

Oilers 7, Blackhawks 4
Devils 2, Ducks 1
Predictions record: 2-4
My 3 stars of the night:
1. Jeffrey Skinner, CAR (2 Goals, 1 Assist)… It seemed the weight was taken off Skinner’s shoulders as he potted a pair of goals plus a helper.
2. Claude Giroux, PHI (2 Goals)
3. Dustin Byfuglien, ATL (1 Goal, 1 Assist)

Games of the Night:
Nashville Predators (5-1-3) @ Detroit Red Wings (5-2-1)
7:00 ET… TV: Local Networks
2009/10 Season Series: 4-1-1 Red Wings
Players to watch:
NSH- Shea Weber
It seems like games against Detroit bring the best out of Weber.
DET- Henrik Zetterberg
‘Hank’ is off to a great start with 11 points in 8 games.
Projected Goaltenders:
NSH- Pekka Rinne (2010/11 stats: 2-1-2, 1.87 GAA)
DET- Chris Osgood (2010/11 stats: 1-2-0, 3.01 GAA)
Injury Report:
NSH- Ryan Suter (lower body, out), Marcel Goc (shoulder, out), Matthew Lombardi (concussion, out)
DET- Jimmy Howard (back, out), Brian Rafalski (knee, out), Jonathan Ericsson (back, out), Kris Draper (groin, out)
Game Thoughts:
The Preds and Wings renew acquaintances tonight as both look to build off a fast start. Nashville has been the talk of the NHL, but was humbled Thursday against the Blues. Detroit has lost Howard to back spasms, so Osgood will get the call again. Even though the Preds usually play well against Detroit, I think Mike Babcock and company will grab the two points.
Prediction: Red Wings 3, Predators 2 (OT)
—
Washington Capitals (6-4-0) @ Calgary Flames (6-4-0)
10:00 ET… TV: CBC, Local Networks
2009/10 Season Series: 1-0 Flames
Players to watch:
WSH- Tomas Fleischmann
Call it a hunch, but I think ‘Flash’ is due for a big game.
CGY- Mark Giordano
Fresh off a new extension, how will ‘Gio’ perform against high-flying Washington.
Projected Goaltenders:
WSH- Michal Neuvirth (2010/11 stats: 6-3-0, 2.17 GAA)
CGY- Miikka Kiprusoff (2010/11 stats: 5-3-0, 2.35 GAA)
Injury Report:
WSH- Semyon Varlamov (groin, out), Marcus Johansson (hip, out), Tom Poti (lower body, out), Boyd Gordon (undisclosed, out)
CGY- Daymond Langkow (neck, out), David Moss and Adam Pardy (shoulder, out), Ales Kotalik (knee, out), Raitis Ivanans (head, out)
Game Thoughts:
The Capitals make a rare jaunt to Western Canada to battle the Flames. Washington seems to have caught a bit of a rut, but you know they’ll be ready for HNIC. Calgary is coming off a tough 6-5 loss to the hands of the Avs on Thursday. In the end, I see Alex Ovechkin shining on the big stage (HNIC) and carrying the Caps to victory.
Prediction: Capitals 4, Flames 2
The rest of tonight’s predictions:
Maple Leafs over Rangers
Panthers over Canadiens
Bruins over Senators
Flyers over Islanders
Penguins over Hurricanes
Blues over Thrashers
Blackhawks over Wild
Sabres over Stars
Avalanche over Blue Jackets
Coyotes over Lightning
Kings over Devils
Sharks over Ducks
