FH 201: These Three Turkeys

Here comes a very fast edition of this week’s Three Turkeys.  The voting was so close this week that literally we extended the deadline till 10pm ET.

Also, sorry for the lack of shiny photo or video, we wanted to get those turkeys out and quick because we unexpectedly had a late turkey sighting.  Hopefully that will suffice.  Below as always are our “three fantasy turkeys”.  They should be ashamed as the turkeys have so clearly pointed out that these are the lowest of low in hockey circles for this week.

What do we do with these three turkeys?  Okay let’s name them.

THESE THREE TURKEYS

Steven Stamkos (Tampa Bay)

Oh my god, we went there!  Get those Seen Stamkos milk carton ads back again.  Stamkos had no points last week and a -2.  Add in the fact that it seems like he forgot how to score goals, this could be painful for fantasy owners.  The bigger insult may be that Steve Downie is still out as well.  While no one is sure if Stamkos will snap out of this funk this week, I can tell you that this malaise could extend some as clearly Tampa Bay needs Steve Downie more than anyone thought.  Unheralded fantasy players do have a ripple effect and Downie was one last year.  This year, we now realize the impacts when he goes down.

Here is those old times of Seen Stamkos.  Remember these?  Expect Stamkos to come out of this when Downie comes back.  That is out assertion and we are sticking with it.

Rick DiPietro (NY Islanders)

Our late entry into the tournament because it is Rick DiPietro.  Here is the reason why besides the very poor stats.

Now back to this turkey….besides this goal, DiPietro gave up 3 more tonight.  His GAA is just over 3.75 and that save percentage is still under .875.  People can say all they want about how bad the Islanders are but when a 40+ year old goalie can run circles around you, at what point is it time to just bury this guy forever never to be seen on your fantasy team ever ever again!  His one one good fantasy performance was against an equally disappointing New Jersey Devils team.  Let us be honest when we say this, if you really had to take this guy because every player was taken, you were better off with none of the above.

Just lay him to rest and be done with him already.

Evgeni Malkin (Pittsburgh Penguins)

This may be unfair but we will throw a turkey at Dan Bylsma as well.  Malkin had no points in his last three games and now has missed a couple due to a knee that was more sore than anyone thought.  The extent of the injury is not very well known but we had this with the shoulder, the leg, etc…etc.  Here is the problem.  If this was Sidney Crosby, we would have the injury broadcast in 455 languages by now.

Clearly this has hampered Malkin so keep him benched for awhile until he can prove that he is back and 100%.  Let us pray this injury does not get worse for fantasy GM’s and their sanity.

THE DISHONORABLE MENTION:

1. Marian Gaborik — Because out of the lineup, the team is better most nights.

2. Drew Doughty — Surprisingly not doing what was expected and its getting worse.

3. Tampa Bay Goalies — They have problems, you stay away from them.

Well that is all for now, see you next week with more turkey!
