It finally happened. Alexei Kovalev scored in the first period of tonight’s Senators-Coyotes game. As a matter of fact, Ottawa fired 20 shots on net in the first period and scored three times. Why is this breaking news? Look we have joked about Kovalev’s scoring problems since February 14th and it has taken a life of its own even in fantasy circles.
If you want proof…we have it straight from Yahoo:
- Ottawa 5:36, Alex Kovalev 1 (Peter Regin, Nick Foligno)
So there it is. Kovalev scored on October 26th, 2010. Do you want to know when his last goal was? That is right. March 30th, 2010 against the Washington Capitals in OT mind you breaking a month and a half drought. The player used to be clutch at times in his career but now he is a shell of his former self. It is always sad to see when a very good player falls off the table but when said player gives little or no reason to believein them, that is a a completely different matter entirely.
From a fantasy standpoint, it has been an abysmal mess for anyone who owns Kovalev. he has no trade value and dropping him is funny in this sense. He gets dropped and just sits in most waiver wires. Its like his heart is still ripped out over having to sign in Ottawa. Who knows really but the reality is the KHL may come calling for this Russian soon.
The goal at the end….so when will Kovalev score….that is a mystery wrapped in an enigma. Make your guess and place your bets.
