This Day In Hockey History (9/23)

Today we have a special moment because on September 23rd, 2011, history will be made.  Mike Modano announced his retirement earlier in the week and this afternoon, he will be holding a press conference that I am sure will be filled with tears, good times, and many memories.  Really there is no way to do this justice other than to let Mr. Modano speak a little.  So here is our moment and for the first time ever it is on the day that a new moment has been created.  First some videos and then this gem.

Mike Modano retires today after 21 seasons in the NHL. He has 561 goals and 1,374 points, leading U.S.-born players in the league.  He signed a one day contract so he could retire in the Minnesota / Dallas Stars organization.  Thanks for the memories Mike!

This Day In Hockey History (9/23)

We are back just enjoying the moments one day at a time.  Today, there was a moment from 18 years ago.  This indeed was a true classic but not in the sense you would expect.

Manon Rheaume became the first woman ever to play in an NHL exhibition game, when she played in goal for the Lightning. She made 7 saves and gave up two goals in one period in a game against the Blues, in Tampa Bay.
