This Day In Hockey History (7/27)

Today we bow our heads and honor a man who, without his invention, hockey would be a lot harder to play in rinks.  He may have left us 23 years ago but he left an undeniable mark on the sport and had many of us dream as kids, “I wanna drive the Zamboni!”.

 

 

July 27, 1988


Frank Zamboni, the inventor of the famous ice-cleaning machine, passed away at the age of 87 in Paramount, California.

People forget that before Dave Lewis was a Red Wing for life it seemed, he was a member of another team in red.  Today’s moment happened 24 years ago today…..

Free agent, and veteran defenseman Dave Lewis signed a contract with the Detroit Red Wings, after leaving the New Jersey Devils.
