This Day In Hockey History (6/30)

Rarely would we put such a light hearted moment in on the day before free agency but this one just tops them all.  “Trading Places” fans will love this especially.  The moment occurred 18 years ago today and Detroit got a gritty player that helped them win titles all for a bargain basement price in exchange.  Indeed the gods were smiling with Detroit on this day in history.

 

 

June 30, 1993


Detroit Red Wings acquired Kris Draper from the Winnipeg Jets, in exchange for future considerations (exactly $1).

This Day In Hockey History (6/30)

With the Frenzy just a day away, we go back to a time where rights where actually traded surprisingly enough.  This moment happened seven years ago and it must still feel like a dagger to every New York Ranger fan.  Most probably still remember it like it was yesterday.  So here is a little video and moment time.

New York Rangers traded the rights to free-agent defenceman Brian Leetch to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for backup goaltender Jussi Markkanen and a conditional draft pick.
