This Day In Hockey History (12/23)

What if Barry Pederson had remained a Boston Bruin?  We may never know what would have happened but something tells me he would have had a far more productive career in Beantown.  These things just occur that way but thirty years ago today Pederson was surprising everyone as a rookie playing for the Bruins.  Here is the moment in the bigger context as well with the video on “This Day” as always.

 

 

December 23, 1981


Boston’s Rick Middleton scored his 4th career hat trick and added an assist, and rookie Barry Pederson picked up four assists as the Bruins won 7-4, at Washington.

We do not make it a secret for our disdain of the Winter Classic.  However, there is a respect for it. Today’s moment has nothing to do with it so here it goes….

 

 

December 23, 2001


Mighty Ducks scored three goals in a 51-second span during the first period, the fastest three in franchise history, and Jean-Sebastien Giguere recorded his 6th career shutout as Anaheim won 4-0 against the Coyotes at Phoenix.

Rookie Wayne Rutledge was in goal for his first career shutout (and the first shutout in Kings’ team history), a 4-0 win over St. Louis, at the Sports Arena in Los Angeles.
