This Saturday moment on This Day was an easy one because truly these goalies were not in the Christmas Spirit.  It was fun to look back at these gems today.  So when we spanned backwards, it was easy to pick out this one.  Here is today’s moment with a video of course as always.  Maybe we will see some stingy goaltending like what you see below.

 

 

December 10, 1988


Washington’s Pete Peeters and Canadiens’ Patrick Roy dueled to a 0-0 scoreless tie at the Forum in Montreal. It was the 16th career shutout for Peeters and the 7th shutout of Roy’s NHL career.

December 10, 2003


Martin Brodeur recorded his 70th career shutout, and Patrik Elias scored his 400th career NHL point with the winning goal at 2:09 of overtime in the Devils 1-0 win over the visiting New York Islanders.

Today we just bring you one of those sick scoring streaks that you would rarely see in today’s game but they were a bit more common 25 years ago. Here is one such moment in time.



People forget how good he was.

December 10, 1984


Kings’ Bernie Nicholls extended his team-record point scoring streak to 25 straight games as Los Angeles lost 4-2 to the Rangers, in New York. Nicholls scored 21 goals and 19 assists for 40 points during the 25 game streak.
