This Day In Hockey History (10/6)

Today we have a quick yet quirky moment.  Enjoy the season opener’s but this moment was all about the Fall Chill from ten years ago.  As always a little video and then the gem coming your way….

 

 

October 06, 2001


Michigan State tied Michigan 3-3 at Spartan Stadium in East Lansing, before 74,554 fans, breaking a hockey attendance record that had stood for 41 years. The crowd braved temperatures hovering just above freezing with wind gusts reaching 30 mph.

This Day In Hockey History (10/6)

There is a certain fondness for moments that are just out of the norm.  This one is definitely one of those cases.  Here is a gem from nine years ago that is a bit of a surprise.

 

 

October 06, 2001


Calgary’s Roman Turek recorded his second consecutive shutout (the 17th of his career) in a 4-0 win against the visiting Chicago Blackhawks. The victory made the Flames just the 5th team in NHL history to open a season with consecutive shutouts.

October 06, 1988


Wayne Gretzky scored his first goal in a Kings uniform on his first shot of the game, as the Kings won on their opening night, 8-2 vs Detroit. Gretzky had a goal and three assists in the game, and passed 83 Kings in team’s all time scoring.
