This Day In Hockey History (10/3)

There are truly classics and then there is this one which transcends time.  Think of the greats in any sport from days far gone by.  Howie Morenz was considered by many to be the Babe Ruth of his time.  Then injuries began to take their toll on the talented Forward.  Almost out of nowhere, the following trade happened 77 years ago today.  As guaranteed, we have a video and then this moment that would have been like the Wayne Gretzky trade fron 1988. 

 

 

October 03, 1934


Montreal Canadiens traded Howie Morenz, Marty Burke and Lorne Chabot to Chicago in exchange for Lionel Conacher, Roger Jenkins and Leroy Goldsworthy.

October 03, 1953


Jean Beliveau signed his first contract with the Montreal Canadiens, and was assigned uniform #4 for the first time in his NHL career (after wearing number’s 17, 20 & 12 during previous brief stays with the Canadiens).
