This Day In Hockey History (10/13)

With the news that Sidney Crosby has resumed full contact practices, we decided to search for an equally inspiring “This Day”.  It was a tough process but we think we did find something in our inbox that would be considered satisfactory.  Today we say hello to the debut of one, Henri Richard.  All he did was win 11 Stanley Cups with Montreal.  However, here is today’s moment with a bit of video to make the readers salivate more.

 

 

October 13, 1955


Montreal announced that Henri Richard had been signed to a two-year contract with the team. Two days later, he scored his first goal in his NHL debut against the Rangers, and went on to win Stanley Cups in each of his first five NHL seasons.

October 13, 1981


L.A.’s Marcel Dionne scored twice to become the first player to score 300 goals as a member of the Kings. The milestone came in a 4-3 win over the visiting Calgary Flames.

BallHype: hype it up!

This Day on Tuesday. Now today focuses on a rookie who more than lived up to the hype. He was the stuff of legend. All those fifty goal seasons get you that kind of respect as a true sniper. Yes we are talking about Mike Bossy.

October 13, 1977


Rookie Mike Bossy scored his first NHL goal in his first NHL game, as the Islanders lost their season opener, 3-2 to the Sabres at Buffalo.
