Morning Skate Xtra: Monday, 3/30

BallHype: hype it up!
Tonight’s Slate:
Devils @ Rangers, 7:00 ET

Sharks @ Flames, 9:30
Stars @ Coyotes, 10:00

Games of the Night:
New Jersey Devils (47-24-4) @ New York Rangers (39-28-9)

Players to watch:
NJ- Paul Martin
NYR- Sean Avery

Projected Goaltenders:
NJ- Martin Brodeur
(08-09 stats: 15-6-3, 2.17 GAA)
NYR- Henrik Lundqvist (08-09 stats: 34-23-7, 2.50 GAA)

Season Series: 3-2 Devils

Game Thoughts:
The Devils’ special teams have been bad lately as they’ve lost 5 of 6. New York is looking to get some breathing room from 9th-seeded Florida. Whichever goalie plays better will get the ‘W’. I like Lundqvist and company at home tonight…

Prediction: Rangers 3, Devils 2 (OT)

San Jose Sharks (49-15-11) @ Calgary Flames (43-26-6)
9:30 ET… TV: Local Networks

Players to watch:
SJ- Devin Setoguchi
CGY- Mike Cammalleri

Projected Goaltenders:
SJ- Evgeni Nabokov
(08-09 stats: 38-9-3, 2.44 GAA)
CGY- Miikka Kiprusoff (08-09 stats: 43-20-5, 2.86 GAA)

Season Series: 2-1 Flames

Game Thoughts:
This is one of my more favorite matchups to watch! San Jose is trying to extend their lead on Detroit for tops in the West… meanwhile; Calgary is fighting for their lives in the Northwest Division (1 pt. lead on VAN). The Flames took the 2 most recent meetings back in January, and I think they’ll take 3 of 4 from the recently inconsistent Sharks.

Prediction: Flames 4, Sharks 3

Dallas Stars (33-33-9) @ Phoenix Coyotes (31-37-7)
10:00 ET… TV: VERSUS

Players to watch:
DAL- Marty Turco
PHX- Matthew Lombardi

Projected Goaltenders:
DAL- Marty Turco
(08-09 stats: 32-30-9, 2.84 GAA)
PHX- Ilya Bryzgalov (08-09 stats: 24-30-6, 2.90 GAA)

Season Series: 3-2 Coyotes

Game Thoughts:
A loss for Dallas tonight could seal their playoff fate, if it hasn’t been already. It seems like they’ve just hit a wall… just like Phoenix did after the All-Star break. The ‘Yotes are flat out playing better hockey than the Stars right now, which is why I’m picking them.

Prediction: Coyotes 3, Stars 1
