There is a reason why Sunday Breakfast is the best and Ryan brings us an excellent Morning Skate as always.

The Morning After:

Kings 4, Bruins 3 (SO)

Lightning 2, Sabres 1

Canadiens 2, Maple Leafs 0

Panthers 4, Islanders 1

Flyers 5, Capitals 4 (SO)

My 3 stars of the night:

2. Carey Price, MTL (30 Saves, Shutout)

3. Mike Santorelli, FLA (2 Goals)

Close but no cigar: M. Garon, CBJ; J. Quick, LA; J. Halak, STL; P. Rinne, NSH; M. Hejduk, COL; M. Smith, TB; M. Richards, PHI

Tonight’s Slate:

Islanders @ Thrashers, 5:00 ET

Flames @ Red Wings, 5:00

Oilers @ Ducks, 8:00

Coyotes @ Canucks, 9:00

Game of the Night:

Calgary Flames @ Detroit Red Wings

5:00 ET… TV: Local Networks

Records:

Overall: Flames (8-10-0) … Red Wings (12-3-2)

Last Ten: Flames (3-7-0) … Red Wings (7-2-1)

Away/Home: Flames (3-5-0) … Red Wings (8-1-2)

Season Series: 2-0 Red Wings

Players to watch:

CGY- Jarome Iginla

Can Iginla carry over his success from scoring a hat trick on Friday?

DET- Nicklas Lidstrom

Lidstrom has gone two games without a point… he’s due!

Projected Goaltenders:

CGY- Miikka Kiprusoff (2010/11 stats: 7-9-0, 2.70 GAA)

DET- Jimmy Howard (2010/11 stats: 10-1-2, 2.34 GAA)

Injury Report:

CGY- Olli Jokinen (undisclosed, questionable), Daymond Langkow (neck, out), Adam Pardy (shoulder, out), Raitis Ivanans (concussion, out), Ales Kotalik and Ryan Stone (knee, out)

DET- Kris Draper and Chris Osgood (groin, out)

Game Thoughts:

The Red Wings host the Flames tonight after blowing two points on Friday to Minnesota. Calgary is coming off a big win over Chicago two nights ago, looking to continue that momentum. Kiprusoff hasn’t had the best success against Detroit, who has had Calgary’s number in recent years. I fully expect the Wings to bounce back and get the ‘W’.

Prediction: Red Wings 3, Flames 1

The rest of tonight’s predictions:

Thrashers over Islanders

Ducks over Oilers

Canucks over Coyotes

Games of the Night:
Calgary Flames @ Los Angeles Kings

4:00 ET… TV: Local Networks

Records:
Overall:
Flames (12-6-2) … Kings (13-8-2)
Last Ten: Flames (5-4-1) … Kings (5-4-1)
Away/Home: Flames (6-1-2) … Kings (5-3-1)
Season Series: First meeting

Players to watch:
CGY- Jarome Iginla

‘Iggy’ has owned the Kings in his career, and needs to continue his hot streak.
LA- Alexander Frolov
Stepping into Smyth’s place on the top line, Frolov hasn’t scored since October 28th.

Projected Goaltenders:
CGY- Miikka Kiprusoff
(09/10 stats: 11-5-2, 2.64 GAA)
LA- Jonathan Quick (09/10 stats: 12-7-2, 2.69 GAA)

Injury Report:
CGY-
None
LA- Ryan Smyth (upper-body, out), Rob Scuderi (lower-body, doubtful)

Game Thoughts:
I’m very interested to see how the Flames play in this one. There’s reportedly something internally wrong with Phaneuf, and the team is coming off a blowout loss at home. The Kings hung tough with the Flyers the other night, and are looking to get back on track at home. I see LA winning in overtime…
Prediction: Kings 3, Flames 2 (OT)

Buffalo Sabres @ Ottawa Senators
7:00 ET… TV: Local Networks

Records:
Overall:
Sabres (12-5-2) … Senators (10-6-3)
Last Ten: Sabres (5-4-1) … Senators (5-4-1)
Away/Home: Sabres (5-2-0) … Senators (7-3-3)
Season Series: First meeting

Players to watch:
BUF- Thomas Vanek

You can start to see the ball rolling with Vanek offensively.
OTT- Daniel Alfredsson
He has just 2 points in 5 games since a 9-game point streak.

Projected Goaltenders:
BUF- Ryan Miller
(09/10 stats: 12-3-2, 1.97 GAA)
OTT- Pascal Leclaire (09/10 stats: 8-5-1, 2.77 GAA)

Injury Report:
BUF-
Drew Stafford (lower body, doubtful), Mike Grier (groin, doubtful)
OTT- Anton Volchenkov (elbow, out), Shean Donovan (knee, out)

Game Thoughts:
After a disappointing overtime loss last night at home, the Sabres must bounce back in another key division game. The Senators have been inconsistent, but have won two in a row. If Miller gets the start again tonight, I think Buffalo will take care of business on the road.
Prediction: Sabres 3, Senators 2

Columbus Blue Jackets @ Nashville Predators
8:00 ET… TV: Local Networks

Records:
Overall:
Blue Jackets (12-6-2) … Predators (11-8-1)
Last Ten: Blue Jackets (6-2-2) … Predators (8-2-0)
Away/Home: Blue Jackets (6-4-0) … Predators (6-3-0)
Season Series: First meeting

Players to watch:
CBJ- Kristian Huselius

Huselius is coming off a 3-point performance, and has 6 points in the last 3 games.
NSH- Patric Hornqvist
He’ll be a key player tonight in the hard areas and in front of the net.

Projected Goaltenders:
CBJ- Steve Mason
(09/10 stats: 8-5-2, 3.48 GAA)
NSH- Pekka Rinne (09/10 stats: 8-4-0, 2.35 GAA)

Injury Report:
CBJ-
Samuel Pahlsson (back/elbow, questionable), Derek Dorsett (head, out), Fredrik Modin (knee, out), Andrew Murray (shoulder, out)
NSH- Colin Wilson (groin, out), Wade Belak (groin, questionable)

Game Thoughts:
Both teams come into this game rolling, and looking to gain points in the tough Central Division. Nashville has beaten the Sharks and Devils this week, so a let-down is possible. Columbus won decisively in Dallas, and look to keep up the road success. This will be an action-packed, high-pace game, and I think the Preds eek out a ‘W’.
Prediction: Predators 4, Blue Jackets 3

The rest of tonight’s predictions:
Thrashers over Penguins
Rangers over Panthers
Lightning over Hurricanes
Capitals over Maple Leafs
Red Wings over Canadiens
Devils over Stars
Blues over Islanders
Flyers over Coyotes
Sharks over Ducks
Blackhawks over Oilers
