On the show last night we were graced by the presence of Tim Rosenthal of Inside Hockey. Tim is a credentialed writer for the Boston Bruins but really knows what goes on in the world of hockey with a bit of edge. What can I say…I always liked a little edge. We talked at length about all the injuries and what needs to be done about the lack of respect in the game these days. It is a subject that obviously the league needs to look into but will not for whatever reason.
We also did a little fantasy spotlight on the BTR league and I personally wanted to congratulate Vickey Godwin on winning last week. See you did hold on and win. Now you just have to do it again. It is great to see players that do not give up and Vickey is definitely one of those fantasy players. Mark Krulish (Angry Pirates) now leads overall with a 41-20-5 record. With teams going outside of their divisions (starting this week)…..things should really get jumbled up a bit more. The hardest thing to do may be to field a complete lineup at this point. I am not kidding. I know of some teams in other leagues where there are 7,8,even 9 players on the IR. Because some of these are stars…it makes it that much harder.
The last part of the show, Rick and I pretty much had a free for all. Yes we even discussed the Hockey Hall Of Fame ceremony tonight. A special congrats goes out to Brian Leetch, Steve Yzerman, Brett Hull, and Luc Robataille. The builder this year going in is none other than Lou Lamoriello. I have a feeling we may have more on him later. Obviously the last three players played for the Wings in 2002 when they won the Stanley Cup. Brian Leetch won the Cup in 1994 for the Rangers. Lou Lamoriello not only ran Team USA hockey for awhile but has been the Devils GM for the last 21 years. Actually he has had the President title since 1987. Also, congratulations are in order for John Davidson (Foster Hewitt Broadcasting Award) and David Molinari (Elmer Ferguson Memorial Award — Journalism). So on the NHL Network or TSN….tune on in at 7pm ET. I have a feeling you will see some amazing speeches.
Has anyone grown tired of not seeing all that much hockey on Sundays and Mondays? I am just curious. Tuesday usually gets a bit better but (and yes I understand the whole NFL,MLB “thing”) it is just really inane. I like to sit down on a Monday and basically enjoy a nice night of hockey and you get maybe one or two games. It just rubs me the wrong way. The schedulers obviously thought these 3 games in four nights deals would be loads of fun for everyone but kind of forgot about the fans on this one. Hopefully with no Olympics next year, they will figure out that this does not work.
Well that is it for the Cooler…see you next week and by the way, 4 injuries per team on average is not a good sign. Let’s all hope for some better health and better hockey.
Sincerely,
Chris Wassel
