Simply it is time to form an organization for hockey bloggers to be protected and yes even treated the same way as writers. Now everyone knows the realities involved and committees would have to be formed and such but something must be done and the time is fast approaching where it needs to be done.
The basic crux is as follows. We know the heavy hitters have to all buy in to this. If I do not include every heavy hitter in this…do not shoot me. Surely we are going to inevitably write with some humor but this matter goes much deeper than freedom of expression. It is something that hits into every writer’s core. The ability to be granted the same respect as writers means a ton…probably more than most realize.
Now it is true that some in the industry have their own following and already are at that level but there are so many that are shunned because though their writing is brilliant…they just do not have that same access for a variety of reasons. So here is what I ask of the big boys named Mirtle, Wyshynski, Kurtenblog, Kukla, and Bleszinski.
Let’s give this a real shot. It is time to form an organization just for bloggers. Solidarity would be paramount obviously but how hard would it be for some of the most brilliant minds to come up with rules? Really? The support so far on twitter has been nice but the reality is true. We need the men and women with some clout in this industry.
The question is this. Is it doable and who is willing to take such a step? It means a lot more than it sounds like. I am wondering if the Devils-Rangers game tonight may have inspired me to start this discussion but no matter. If as a group bloggers want to be taken more seriously then it is time to unite. Then again, the question is all about cooperation. That’s what I got.
