Sad news from the Montreal Canadiens travels even faster than the good news. Lost in the spectacular performance of Carey Price last night is the news this morning that Andrei Markov will miss about 2-3 months due to a torn tendon suffered in last night’s 4-3 OT win over the Toronto Maple Leafs. These things are usually freak incidents and have happened several times over the last few years. Amazingly it does not happen more often but this appears to be a complete tear and hence why the surgery had to be done.
Sorry Habs and fantasy hockey fans….
The impact is far reaching obviously IF IT IS all true. Some details are still a bit unconfirmed at press time. Here is more source info from Habs Inside/Out. Sportsnet and Team 990 have been on this all morning and seem to concur as well.
Question becomes why the Injury Ninja struck such a top defenseman. Well the Ninja does not discriminate. Seriously this does have some serious impact for fantasy hockey owners. The time is NOW to scramble on your waiver wire and look for short term fixes…guys that may have been missed in the draft because well people are already looking I am sure.
Also take a look at a trade in your league. It cannot hurt to at least explore options but do not come out to the rest of the owners like the sky is falling because they will see the fear in your eyes. Often early in the season, owners panic….DO NOT PANIC! I lost two goalies last year that were 1 and 2 in the rankings for extended time and I still won my league thanks to a guy in Anaheim and another in Nashville. Just hang in there.
Obviously more on this story as we get it….but I heard we may have file video on the injury ninja.

Wrong Ninja but be back later with more updates…..
And stay tuned Panthers-Blackhawks from Europe on in less than an hour.
Update (12:30pm ET): Montreal Gazette reporting Markov could be out up to 4 months now. He was cut on the ankle not leg as had been reported earlier. So it is 2-4 months on the injury as of now.
