Fantasy Hockey 101: These Three Turkeys

We are watching!!!!
BallHype: hype it up!

One week away till the turkeys are cooked for the week. Sadly in remembrance to all the fallen turkeys….These Three Turkeys will be taking Thanksgiving off to pay tribute to their fallen comrades. But do not worry, we have three more turkeys this week and remember NHL players….the turkeys are still watching YOU!

Now the turkeys……from somewhere in New Jersey in an undisclosed location…we bring them to you. Now go eat some chicken….no turkey please!!!!!

The Three Turkeys…..

Sidney Crosby (C) — Pittsburgh Penguins

Somewhere I can feel the wrath of Pittsburgh fans but this team functions much better when Evgeni Malkin is not healthy. Better yet, when Crosby shoots more he performs! It is that simple. Yes he has points in three straight games but the point against NJ was off a questionable goal and the assist against Anaheim was kind of lucky too. Before the NJ game, he went 5 games without a point which kills fantasy owners to no end. When you take a guy at the top and he goes on vacation for a bit…your whole team suffers. He was averaging over 4 shots a game before Malkin went down and now just 2.89 shots per game. That is a decent drop off. Pick it up Sid!!!!

Roman Hamrlik (D) — Montreal Canadiens

UGH! The replacement for Mr. Markov has digressed so badly that Montreal had considered benching him to get his head back in it so to speak. His -6 in the last 2 weeks with no assists at all has just strangled fantasy owners who looked for a fix while a certain All-Star was gone. Pointless in 7 straight games now…it is getting to the point where if it was not for ATOI….most would have dropped Hamrlik already. Stop playing like you are on Roman Holiday son and start playing some better hockey or else!!!!!

Steve Mason (G) — Columbus Blue Jackets

The jinx is still in full swing apparently. Mason had 2 quality starts then got shelled again against Detroit. Part of this is on Coach Ken Hitchcock but some of this has to be on the player too. Columbus also has not played as good defensively but some of the goals Mason has given up have just been killers. The question becomes what is his confidence like right now? This is one nobody seems to have a clear answer to. The numbers do not lie…a slightly over 5.50 GAA in his last 14 days and a 3.67 GAA and .879 save percentage overall tell the story….Mason just is not as good as last year. He needs to be better…considerably better…so that the turkeys do not keep calling at his door this holiday season and beyond!!

Well next week the turkeys will be in mourning but look out NHL players…they shall return the following Thursday with three more players that have truly crapped the bed. See you then!!!!
