On this week’s edition of Your Slot Here, we take a look at get this….me.  When starting out a new project, I was always told to maximize exposure but this is a case of merely just asking you to go check this out when it is up.  This week I was named the new Devils beat writer for Examiner.com.  I am still speechless to be honest.  However, I never would have accomplished this if it was not for all the readers, bloggers, and hockey personalities that made this possible.

There will be obviously more information as to links and what not as articles start going up on the site.  I caution the site is under construction right now but I am just giving a heads up to go check it out.  There will be a candidness on this site that you will not always find on other sites but it will be done respectably much like fine people like Michelle Kenneth, Don LaGreca, Richard Chere, and so many others that I have grown to know over the past several years.  There will still be edge but it will be a bit more polished around the edges.

Now do not worry.  This is not going to take away from my work here.  Sure there may be a little less output but the RPM’s will still be cranked up on high.  The goal is the same as it ever was…to spread the word of hockey around the world and back.  I really would not have it any other way.  As the dryer buzzes and the phone goes off in the background, I think to myself what an interesting screwed up sort of year it has been.  But this career path has some definite upside at last.

What does the future hold?  I do not know.  I just know it will not be dull.  Without all the readers and people that interact with me on a daily or even weekly basis, it sure would just not be the same.  I have to say fanatically this has been a fun ride and I only hope it keeps getting better from here.  A big congrats to all that work with us on the podcast as well and keep it going throughout the spring and summer.  Thanks again.

So what do I read every morning? Many have asked that. One thing for sure is certainly not the newspaper. Frankly, newspaper coverage out here sucks worse than a llama’s backside. I am the biggest hockey junkie even in the offseason….so time to fire away here.

Red Light District — A site that has been kind of under the radar but will not be for long. I follow it on a daily basis especially now for the offseason previews. They are a priceless thing especially for those trying to gage for even fantasy leagues….never too early for that, you know. Look on the right for coaching changes and Top UFA’s and RFA’s….a very useful tool if you ask me. One of the best sites out there for timely news honestly….always a great read.

DobberHockey — Ever wonder where my love for fantasy hockey started…it pretty much was because of sites like DobberHockey. What really is the bible standard or should be for fantasy hockey players everywhere. If you have a league and you want to succeed, check out their site and their forums….not only will you not regret it but the amount of useful tips are mind boggling. Did I mention their radio show? Well now I just did.

Spector’s Hockey — The roundup everyday is something you should always read…especially with the Free Agent Frenzy less than four weeks away. With Salary Cap Numbers, The Soapbox, forums, and much more…Spector’s always keeps you informed with the latest then dips in and gives you insight on what could happen in the future. You will be surprised at how often he is “bang on” with his observations.

Going Five Hole — Sean has one of the best sites out there period. Yes he is an avid Penguins fan but his love of hockey trumps it. I read it everyday just to see what is new on the page and you do never know what is going to pop on there…like this morning’s Mock Draft which is not only well done…but pretty much is right on the money from what I have seen so far. I admit freely I may not be the greatest hockey draft expert at all…but I never stop learning. His coverage of the Penguins, the NHL, and more is unyielding and an asset to anyone who covers the sport on a daily basis.
