With a game going on…..we have a quick edition of the four best from last night’s action…..we call it The Fab Four of course!!!!
4th cider — Ilya Bryzgalov (PHX — G)
A 33 save shutout that was much needed against a Columbus team who was pressing most of the night. These were keyed with great saves on Modin and Novotny in the closing minute of the second period. Bryzgalov after a rough stretch may be ready to finally take the reins again much like last year. Hopefully he can sustain the effort as Phoenix needs it!!!
3rd cider — Jeff Carter (PHI — F)
In an odd sort of game…the Flyers went off from the late second on and routed the Capitals 7-1. Part of that was because of the play of Jeff Carter who had 2 goals, 2 assists, and was a +5. Did I mention that shorthanded goal? Oops I forgot. At any rate, Carter was a major catalyst in getting the Flyers going and is making Mike right in his pick for Boom Of The Week.
2nd cider — Scott Hartnell (PHI — F)
A hat trick all in the third period. Granted the Flyers erupted in the third but nonetheless they went possum on the Capitals and then unleashed. It seemed everything was going in. Hartnell, who has five career hat tricks, scored on a scramble to give the Flyers a 4-0 lead at 4:45, hammered in a rebound at 7:29, and poked in a shot from the front of the left circle at 16:25. That sums it up right there. It was quite the effort but that line of Hartnell-Lupul-Carter was dynomite yesterday afternoon. Bottom line is Hartnell earned his second cider.
1st cider — Antero Niittymaki (PHI — G)
Niitty was spectacular yesterday…including 25 stops in the first period that could be described as otherworldly. Overall, he stopped 47 shots including 12 from Alexander Ovechkin himself. That was insane….those three Caps Power Plays should have resulted in a goal but Niitty was unconscious and that is why he is deserving of the first cider. The Flyers do not win that game without him and an outstanding performance like that is what we look for here on The Fab 4!!!!
