KHL ANNOUNCES STARTING LINE-UPS FOR INAUGURAL ALL-STAR GAME

A total of 142,636 fans cast their votes online to determine the starting line-ups for Team Alexei Yashin and Team Jaromir Jagr that will compete in the Kontintental Hockey League’s (KHL) inaugural All-Star Game on Saturday, 10 January, in Red Square in Moscow.

Goaltender Alexander Eremenko (Salavat Yulaev Ufa), defensemen Ilya Nikulin (Ak Bars Kazan) and Vitaly Proshkin (Salavat Yulaev Ufa) and forwards Alexei Morozov, Danis Zaripov (both – Ak Bars Kazan) and Maksim Sushinsky (SKA St. Petersburg) have been selected to Team Yashin, which will feature the best Russian KHL players.

The starting lineup for Team Jagr, representing top non-Russian KHL players, will consist of goalie Robert Esche (SKA St. Petersburg), defensemen Ray Giroux (SKA St. Petersburg) and Kevin Dallman (Barys Astana) and forwards Pavel Brendl (Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod), Tony Martensson (Ak Bars Kazan) and Jan Marek (Metallurg Magnitogorsk).

Alexei Morozov, who received 44,549 votes, was the highest voted player.

The above players join previously announced members of Team Yashin – Andrei Nikolishin (Traktor Chelyabinsk) and Alexei Kudashov (Lokomotiv Yaroslavl) – and Team Jagr – Marcel Hossa (Dynamo Riga) and Jakub Klepis (Avangard Omsk) – who were not subject to the fan voting process.

On December 23, the next stage of forming the All-Star teams’ rosters will commence, with media selecting six players for each team (one goalie, two defensemen and three forwards). Results of the media balloting will be announced on Friday, 26 December.

The final rosters of each team will be comprised of two goalies, six defenders and nine forwards.

I have to admit there are some faces on there that I am surprised are still playing like Pavel Brendl and Nils Ekman at least in the voting. Morozov and Nikulin are not really surprises. I cannot wait to see this played in Moscow…..just to see the Red Square in a new way.
